What should I expect?
You can expect to be involved in projects from the start. New recruits
commonly become involved in a number of projects in the first few
months. This provides you with exposure and experience in a
variety of technical areas, and study contexts.
Our clients and projects are highly varied, in their objectives,
technical content, scale and duration. You may find yourself contributing
to a major piece of policy research for a central government department,
an evaluation of a new product for a private sector company, or research
into the social impacts of an event or policy (such as congestion
charging or increased energy prices).
What would my role be?
Depending on your background and interests, and your initial team
placement, your role could include:
- preparing questionnaires and materials for
quantitative or qualitative surveys;
- supervising data collection on site, or
assisting with group discussions;
- checking and collating data and carrying
out preliminary data analysis;
- assisting with Proposals to win work, by
obtaining fieldwork quotes and using our Projects Database to provide
a summary of
relevant
MVA Consultancy studies;
- using Census and geographic information
systems (GIS) to analyse and present data, and to define populations
for sampling.
You will be expected to be proactive in understanding how
your own contribution fits into the wider objectives of
the projects
on which
you are working, and to take responsibility for your own
work. You will learn to document clearly what you have
done and to
draft technical
notes or sections of reports to go to the client in a clear
and concise fashion and at an appropriate level of technical
detail.
At all times
you will be working alongside and supported by others in
the project team.
