Environmental Planning

<< Go Back

For forty years we have helped clients develop efficient and sustainable transport systems. Our Environmental Planning division helps bring together the social, economic and environmental dimensions to ensure more sustainable outcomes. Our diverse skills in environmental assessment (including strategic assessments), carbon emissions, air quality, noise mapping, travel plans, transport policy and social research give us the breadth of knowledge to provide comprehensive advice on how to meet the environmental challenges facing clients now and in the future.

The Issues

Pollution harms our health, quality of life and our economy. Many people suffer or die from health problems caused by breathing polluted air. Road traffic is a major contributor to this poor air quality, particularly in large urban areas and near major roads and junctions. Road traffic and aircraft add significant amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to the world’s atmosphere, increasing global warming and adding to the pressure on the natural environment.

Our Capability

We provide developers and public sector bodies all the necessary skills to undertake detailed EIA and SEA of transport schemes, development masterplans and regeneration projects.  We routinely assess the environmental impacts, particularly air, noise and carbon emissions, of transport schemes through the use of our proprietary ENEVAL software package.
The conventional approach to major scheme development is to come up with a design and then determine its environmental impact, refining it in order to minimise or mitigate adverse effects. Our Environmental constraints idetifies the key components of the receiving environment and their sensitivity to development.

The need for environmental measures has increased with the steady growth in air passenger demand around the world. We can help airports and transport authorities to deal with the important issues by predicting the impact of high altitude emissions by aircraft, providing noise and air quality management and evaluating benefits to local communities
Travel Plans bring real benefits to the environment, local communities, companies and their employees. Walking, cycling, public transport and even car-sharing can play their part in reducing congestion and travel delays, relieving parking problems, enhancing air quality and improving public transport services.
