We
provide advice to industry, local and central government to resolve
the conflicts that arise from the movement of freight inter and intra
urban areas. Our freight consultancy services include:
- surveying freight traffic and generators;
- forecasting
freight traffic;
- optimisation of freight movement, generation,
and operation; and
- freight signage strategy.
The Issues
Industry, central Government and local authorities
must agree on the need to improve the efficiency of deliveries to
businesses and reduce the congestion, delays, and environmental nuisance
caused by deliveries. Traditionally these two objectives have
been in conflict. The challenge therefore, is to achieve a balance
between these objectives. We combine our experience in transport
policy development and traffic engineering to develop robust strategies
for the movement of freight in urban areas.
Our Capability
We have long experience of assessing
freight issues as part of urban and inter-urban studies. This
experience includes forecasting freight traffic and appraising projects,
both rail, marine and road, to improve freight movement, safety and
to minimise adverse environmental impacts of freight traffic.
We have
undertaken vehicle routing projects in several cities including London,
Dublin and Birmingham. In London we have assessed the
impact of the Lorry Control Scheme and have extensive experience
utilising the London Area Transport Survey to develop our knowledge
and understanding of freight movements in this major city.
