The Issues
Increasing traffic congestion leads to
reduced traffic movement and economic and environmental problems. It
is possible to mitigate these problems through design, inovation
and planning.
Our Capability
MVA expertise in traffic engineering
techniques contributes to the safe and efficient movement of people
and goods. MVA study
pedestrian and road traffic volumes and highway design to provide
the right solutions to improve existing design layout and design
future layouts.
We are experienced in planning and designing transit
schemes including busways and bus lanes, priority vehicle detection,
relocation of traffic queues and other traffic management measures
to control journey time variability. By combining our traffic engineering,
information technology, bus planning and operations experience and
our business case development skills, we can deliver a seamless solution
to your problems.
We
assess traffic management schemes and make use of the latest developments
in traffic engineering software such as SYNCHRO, SIDRA,
HCS and TRANSYT as well as microsimulation packages such
as VISSIM and PARAMICS. In addition we offer skills in
the design of fixed and variable message traffic signs
using the AutoCad based AutoSign package.
We have experience in designing
major traffic management schemes for urban areas often involving
complex signalling arrangements, highway realignment and new signing.
Incorporation of facilities for vulnerable road users is key to increasing
sustainable modes of transport and typically involves the inclusion
of pelican, toucan or puffin crossings, cycle lanes and pedestrian
refuges.
At the more local level we have developed a variety of traffic calming
schemes comprising horizontal and vertical deflections, mini roundabouts,
chicanes and the like.
