MVA Consultancy has been commissioned by the Scottish Executive to identify good practice in the provision of school transport. The study will investigate schemes and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of services, enhancing the safety and security of pupils, and integrating school transport with wider policies on health and sustainability.
The first stage of the study is a questionnaire which will generate a picture of current arrangements for school transport. The results will be analysed and certain schemes will be investigated in more detail as case studies to see whether they constitute good practice, in terms of delivering desired outcomes, meeting stakeholders’ expectations and achieving good value for money.
The study will culminate in guidance to local authorities on how to continue to improve school transport in their area.
