MVA has been
appointed by TfL to assist in the assessment of the SPRINT bus priority
system. SPRINT is a traffic management system currently used across
London to provide priority to buses on the approaches to signalised
junctions.
The findings
of the study will help TfL to determine the most effective way to
roll-out their state-of-the-art bus Automatic Vehicle Location system
'iBUS'. iBUS will rely on GPS technology to provide priority to
buses and real-time service information on buses, at bus-stops and
via SMS text messages.
MVA will work
alongside TfL's Bus Priority Team to determine the benefits that
the SPRINT system currently provides for bus priority.
As part of the
commission MVA will assist TfL in coordinating a series of four-week
trials across London, and obtain base data from a number of sources,
including traffic signals. The trials will help TfL to determine
the effectiveness of the SPRINT system and thereby assess the suitability
of SPRINT for the new IBUS system.
