Local Authorities can now use the latest Ordnance Survey MasterMap data in accessibility planning on LTPs and supported public transport services.

MVA has launched a new version of ACCESSION™ that makes full use of Ordnance Survey's Integrated Transport Network (ITN) MasterMap data. ITN includes features such as one-way streets, mandatory turns, and grade separation.

ACCESSION™ is the leading-edge software written by MVA for DfT, and is used nationally in accessibility planning activities by over 100 local authorities, as well as many other public- and private-sector organisations.

Information For Editors:

ACCESSION™ is the integrated accessibility planning application, developed by specialist transport consultancy firm MVA on behalf of the DfT, and supplied to UK local authorities in support of the Local Transport Planning process. It is a GIS-based tool that draws together transport, land use, and socio-economic information to model the ease of reaching jobs, education, health, and other key activities. MVA supplies and supports the software, in addition to providing training and consultancy services.

ACCESSION™ version 1.4 includes the ability to import Ordnance Survey's Integrated Transport Network (ITN) road network data and to include ITN features, such as turn restrictions, in accessibility calculations. The addition of ITN provides a more detailed and accurate network for accessibility analyses in Local Transport Plans and the planning of public transport and special transport services.

Part of the Ordnance Survey (OS) MasterMap product range, the Integrated Transport Network (ITN) is now the definitive geographic reference for Great Britain's road network. ITN replaces Ordnance Survey's OSCAR® family of products, and offers a comprehensive representation of the road network including one-way streets, mandatory turns, height restrictions, and grade separation. In addition, OS MasterMap ITN can be integrated with other OS MasterMap data for a variety of applications including contextual backdrop mapping for routing and navigation solutions.

ACCESSION™ imports Ordnance Survey ITN data in native zipped or unzipped versions of GML (an XML format specific to geographic data) as supplied by Ordnance Survey. No additional translation or pre-processing of the data is required. Once imported, many of ITN's features are used by ACCESSION™ in its calculations, including turning restrictions, one-way streets, and grade separation.
