Dr Gerard Whelan has been appointed National Modelling Leader at MVA Consultancy. This is a new role within MVA, which Gerard has taken on from 2nd January 2007.
Having worked at the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds for the last 14 years, Gerard brings to MVA considerable experience in a broad range of modelling methodologies.
At ITS he was Senior Lecturer in Transport Economics and Transport Policy, and leader of the Economics and Behavioural Modelling Research Group. He is an accomplished principal investigator and manager of high profile contract research accounts for government departments, regulators and private companies.
His work to date has covered road, rail and air sectors with a focus on competition and customer choice. A common theme running through his research is a level of expertise in market research and advanced discrete choice modelling which have been applied to a diverse range of applications to model demand, predict market share and value product attributes. He has developed a wide range of transport demand models on high profile accounts for private operators, local and national government and regulatory bodies, and he has presented courses on transport modelling, transport econometrics, and public transport planning and management across Europe.
Gerard’s role at MVA is to lead the technical development and growth of the company’s transport modelling business. A key element of this role is to develop and enhance MVA Consultancy’s reputation in this business sector through the development of new techniques, the attendance at conferences as a speaker and delegate; and interaction with clients on highly challenging technical modelling contracts.
Gerard said: “MVA is at the forefront of transport modelling and has exciting ambitions in this area. I look forward to playing a role in its success”
