Dr Kate Skellington-Orr of MVA Consultancy has been elected as the Chair of the British Psychological Society (BPS) committee in Scotland.
Kate was appointed to the position after spending eight years on the committee of the representative body for psychology and psychologists in Scotland.
The 30-year-old, who has specialist knowledge of Applied Social and Criminological Psychology, joined MVA in 2003 after a spell with the Scottish Executive’s Criminal Justice Research Team.
Based in the consultancy’s Glasgow office, the Principal Consultant has driven research in Crime and Policing, Health, Communities and Transport.
Kate, who has been deputy chair of the BPS for the past three years, believes the new position will support her role with MVA.
She said: “The Society has national responsibility for the development, promotion and application of psychology for the public good.
“Now that I am in the applied field with MVA, the Society allows you to maintain a high standard of professional education and knowledge as well as allowing you to keep in touch with other psychologists in a broad range of disciplines that include clinical, health and criminology.
“It also provides the opportunity to organise and attend a host of valuable networking and CPD events.
“All of this can only provide a valuable resource in supporting the development of my role with MVA.”
