MVA Consultancy transport director elected president of the Institution of Highways and Transportation

Mike Slinn, transport consultancy director at MVA Consultancy, has been inaugurated as president of the Institution of Highways and Transportation (IHT) for the 2007-2008 year.

Now with 11,000 members across the UK, the IHT works to improve the formation of policies, exchange of knowledge and encourage best practice across a diverse range of industry disciplines.

Mike has been with leading independent transport consultancy MVA for 17 years and now holds national responsibility for the firm’s traffic engineering, development and regeneration work.

At his inaugural meeting, Mike set out his aims for the IHT in its 77th year.

He said: “I will be focusing on moving IHT forward to be more relevant to the profession and the wider world.

“The areas in which IHT will make significant announcements during this year will include climate change, road safety and highway maintenance, as well as transport planning qualifications .”

Co-author of Traffic Engineering Design: Principles and Practice, Mike has lectured widely on bus priority, road safety engineering, park and ride, freight, transport assessment, travel planning and accessibility planning issues.
