Stuart Reid has joined MVA Consultancy as Director, Sustainable Transport and Communities.
Leading the technical development and growth of MVA’s UK sustainable transport and communities business, Stuart aims to enhance the company’s reputation in the business sector through integration of all of MVA’s offerings, seeking opportunities with existing and new clients, developing new techniques within the technical staff and speaking at major conferences.
The sustainable transport sector broadly covers non-motorised modes, and includes personal and organisation travel plans, safety and street scene issues as well as development proposals for sustainable communities through both planning and design stages.
Stuart will have a national remit based in MVA’s Woking office and has joined MVA from his position as group manager for sustainable communities with TRL.
With experience spanning more than a decade, he has led a number of significant projects including key research into the evidence base for the DfT’s Manual for Streets, developing the streetscape auditing tool PERS2 for TfL and developing the National Cycling Strategy in a past role at Cyclist’s Touring Club. Stuart is also on the Strategic Enabling Panel of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
Stuart commented: "This is an exciting time for sustainable transport, with lots of new thinking emerging.”
“I'm very pleased to be joining MVA Consultancy with its track record
in the field and commitment to innovation.”
“I intend to put into practice the new thinking from the Manual for Streets and smarter choices work to help MVA’s clients meet their objectives.”
Nigel Ash, MVA’s CEO, added: “We already undertake a
significant amount of work in these areas but we have generally categorised
it differently.”
“As well as the transport engineering aspects it links with policy,
transport research, social research, interchange planning and accessibility
planning.”
“As a whole it is a growing market segment and we need a higher profile and more concentrated approach – which Stuart will provide.”
