Smart Card Procurement and Implementation Advice

MVA Consultancy has been appointed to assist the TRaCC Regional Transport Consortium to procure an end-to-end smart bus ticketing solution and associated depot management system for their own regional consortium area and the transport operators within their sphere of activity. TraCC is the transport consortium for the Mid Wales region, and includes Ceredigion County Council, Gwynedd Council and Powys County Council. This is part of a wider initiative funded by the Welsh Assembly Government to introduce smart card technology throughout Wales for concessionary travel and commercial ticketing. MVA Consultancy is assisting all the Welsh regional transport consortia and the Welsh Assembly in this work, which will see the introduction of a scheme that is fully interoperable using the ITSO(Integrated Transport Smartcard Organisation (new interoperability standard within smartcards)) specification during 2007/2008. The complete system will involve the development of a central asset management system which includes a reimbursement system and card management system that will be accessed by all the Welsh local authorities. MVA has assisted the Welsh Assembly Government in the specification and procurement of these systems, which will enable the TraCC system to be connected immediately into the new smart environment. In addition MVA has been heavily involved in the procurement, roll-out and implementation of smart card scheme within the other Welsh regional transport consortia.
