MVA Consultancy has been appointed to carry out a detailed study of traffic problems in the Kilbowie and Hardgate areas of Clydebank.
The leading transport specialist has been appointed by West Dunbartonshire Council to examine the scope, scale and cause of the ongoing traffic problems on the A82 in the former Scottish shipbuilding hub.
Glasgow-based MVA Consultancy will identify the causes of the identified problems and seek to develop potential solutions using the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG).
This project will include a review of existing traffic data, collection of up to date data in the local area, extensive consultation and an analysis of the significant body of research previously carried out in the area.
MVA’s multi-disciplinary team will identify problems, constraints and opportunities as well as formulating transport planning objectives for the study.
All key stakeholders will be closely involved through a series of workshops and the recommendations brought forward by MVA at the completion of the STAG process will reflect the opinions of those living in the local community and the needs of the travelling public.
Angus Bodie, manager of roads for West Dunbartonshire Council, said: “The A82 is a nationally strategic transport route serving the west side of Scotland, and in north Clydebank it intercepts and conflicts with traffic seeking to use the Erskine Bridge to cross the River Clyde.
“The local communities urgently need relief from the ever-increasing congestion and we are pleased to have MVA working with us to find the best solution.”
Dougie McDonald, MVA’s Divisional Director for Scotland, said: “MVA has been working on Clydebank transport projects for several years and we are delighted to be commissioned to take a first principle look at a problem which has been growing in recent years.
“Our approach will ensure that any potential solutions are fully compliant with best practice appraisal giving the best chance for finding an affordable and supportable solution for local people.”
