The Commission for Rural Communities has published MVA Consultancy’s research into what life may be like in Britain’s countryside if Government carbon targets are to be met.
The industry-leading specialist was appointed by the Government’s Commission for Rural Communities to develop a Thinkpiece advising on policy issues and evidence around sustainable transport in rural areas.
The report – which is freely downloadable - included assessing the carbon footprints of two real communities in England, and planning them to meeting government CO2 reduction targets.
Stuart Reid, director of sustainable communities at MVA Consultancy, said: “The report is one of a series of pieces designed to raise the profile of rural transport issues, placing transport at the heart of the debate on climate change and sustainable rural communities.
“Barring a technological miracle, the research highlights the fundamental changes to lifestyle that will be necessary in rural areas to achieve a 60 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.”
