MVA Consultancy to assess potential Dumfries to national motorway road links

MVA Consultancy has begun the second stage of a STAG appraisal on behalf of South West of Scotland Transport Partnership (SWestrans) to assess potential improvements to the transport system linking Dumfries to the national transport network.
Two options were identified in the initial appraisal carried out by the consultancy on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway Council.
And this latest phase will take a more detailed approach to determine if it would be viable to take either of the proposed road link options forward.
Following refreshed STAG guidance as well as taking into account established STAG criteria and locally-determined transport planning objectives, the work will include an examination of the benefit cost ratios for both proposed road links, consideration of the wider economic benefits and a careful evaluation of the potential environmental implications.
Project director Dougie McDonald said: “We are delighted to continue to examine the linking of Dumfries to the national transport network. We have several staff with excellent skills and capabilities in STAG appraisal and adding this project to our growing portfolio ensures we remain at the forefront of Scottish transport project appraisal.”
