MVA Consultancy to deliver modelling work for Forth and Clyde Canal Transport Strategy

<< Go Back

MVA Consultancy will develop micro-simulation models to support the local development strategy (LDS) for the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow.

The LDS for the Forth and Clyde Canal corridor outlines a significant regeneration plan for the area between Port Dundas, Maryhill Town Centre and Locks north west of Glasgow.

The objective of the strategy is to develop the use of the canal by considering measures such as new access roads, local junction improvements, road widening, cycling infrastructure and new pedestrian links and bridges.

MVA Consultancy will assist the early stages of the planning process by undertaking a comprehensive traffic data collection exercise which will allow its specialist team to develop three independent VISSIM micro-simulation models.

The validated models will then be used to test and evaluate the impact of development traffic forecasts and considered traffic management measures.

Project Director Dougie McDonald said: “The Forth and Clyde Canal area is one of the key regeneration areas in Glasgow.  MVA is delighted to have the opportunity to assist the Council with its visionary plans and to use the models and techniques which have served both parties so well in the past.  We are confident that the analytical skills of our staff and the energy and vision of the City Planners will result in a first class access and transport management system in the area.”
