MVA Consultancy will carry out an assessment of school transport pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) points on rural routes in Dumfries and Galloway. The consultants will also investigate the provision of low-cost improvement measures for the routes.
The leading transport consultancy has been appointed by Dumfries and Galloway Council to undertake assessments using the specifically-designed assessment methodology developed under contract to West Dunbartonshire Council and Strathclyde Passenger Transport. For Dumfries and Galloway MVA will also develop a GIS database system for logging PUDO assessments. The consultants are currently finalising a set of training and user manuals, under contract to SPT, for role out across the SPT area in 2008.
MVA’s Divisional Director for Scotland, Dougie McDonald, said:
“Since the first day we worked on the PUDO Assessment methodology we have been amazed at the lack of awareness of the issues and the potential for improvement which exists.
“MVA is delighted to be playing a leading role in developing the methodology and helping to make school transport safer. We are convinced Dumfries and Galloway will benefit in the same way as West Dunbartonshire has.”
