SPT transport study enters final phase

<< Go Back

MVA Consultancy has begun work on the third phase of the West of Scotland Conurbation Public Transport Study (WSCPTS) on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

MVA has already delivered phases one and two of the vital study which explored opportunities to integrate existing modes of transport including Subway, bus and heavy rail and assessed the viability of introducing new transport services like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) into the existing network.

The third and final phase will now consider the potential to improve public transport over the next 25 years by expanding and integrating the existing network.

MVA’s specialist team will look into the problem areas and investigate issues such as congestion, the provision of Park and Ride facilities and transport interchanges.

The study is expected to be completed by Spring 2009.

Project Manager Neill Birch said: “We are delighted to be able to continue supporting SPT with this strategic piece of work.  All of the team are excited at this unique opportunity to help establish the future shape of public transport across Scotland’s largest city.”

SPT Assistant Chief Executive, John Halliday, said: “We want to develop plans that are deliverable, affordable and realistic and this study is key to our efforts to improve transport in the region.

"Phase three of this study will identify a raft of proposals that could make a real difference for people in this part of Scotland.  It will look in more detail at travel patterns in the area and the potential for greater integration and more efficient public transport.”
