Conrad Haigh of MVA Consultancy has been awarded Travel Planner of the year at the ACT TravelWise National conference on Thursday November 13.
The Director of Smarter Travel was commended during a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.
The prestigious event marked the 10th anniversary of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) white paper “A new deal for transport – better for everyone” and also explored new ideas and initiatives to support the government’s smarter choices programme throughout the next decade.
Conrad joined MVA Consultancy recently from Transport for London (TfL) where he was Workplace Travel Planning Manager.
He has a specialist public sector knowledge and significant experience of devising strategies designed to create behavioural change in transport use.
Key projects in which he has played a key role include the delivery of a workplace travel planning programme across 33 London boroughs.
The Workplace Travel Plan programme obtained more than 1,400 travel plans - 400 of which were voluntary travel plans covering more than 10 per cent of the London workforce which amounts to half a million employees. Under Conrad’s management, Workplace travel plans in London were achieving a 13 per cent average modal shift away from car journeys.
Conrad said: “It is a great privilege to have been recognised by my fellow practitioners and I would like to thank all of those who have contributed to the achievements that have led to this accolade.
“The work I did in London proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Smarter Travel really does create significant mode shift from car journeys on a mass scale.
“In my new role as Director of Smarter Travel at MVA I hope to build a team that will take the knowledge of what was achieved in London and make it available across the UK and beyond.”
