Recognition for leader in payment means and ticketing innovation

Transport consultants MVA Consultancy have promoted Jeremy Meal to senior director in their UK practice. Congratulating him, CEO Nigel Ash said: “We have reflected the admiration of our clients for Jeremy’s contribution to working out when and how to effectively apply the newer technologies, such as Smartcards to payment means, in the UK market for bus and rail services.”

Jeremy worked on the ground breaking card service introduced in Singapore in the 1990s, which was the world’s first large scale application of a multi-modal stored value ticketing system. This provided the integrated ticketing which underpinned the rationalisation and commercial improvement of the bus network following opening of the MRT underground railway. Since then he has also contributed some of the key charging concepts and operating assumptions behind the Melbourne ticketing system upgrade to Miki now underway.

In the UK, Jeremy has worked closely with the many stakeholders developing the ITSO specification for public transport smartcard ticketing in the UK which has been adopted for both concessionary travel and the basis of new rail franchise commitments. He has built up a multi-disciplinary team within MVA to service its growing number of clients in this field. Through the market force and technology complexities, Jeremy and his team has been able to frame the issues in ways accessible to all, and be respected for objective and honest advice.
