MVA Consultancy celebrates smart choice

-MVA backs Travel Planner of the Year at awards-

MVA Consultancy is celebrating after backing the winner at this year’s ACT Travelwise Awards after scooping the top prize at last year’s event.

Samira Ahmed, Head of Transport Strategy at BSkyB, was crowned Travel Planner of the Year at the ceremony last night (Wednesday 25 November) after impressing the judges with her track record of success in effective travel planning.

Conrad Haigh, Director of Travel Planning at award sponsor MVA Consultancy and last year’s Travel Planner of the Year winner, explained that Samira’s consistency and significant achievements in reducing car use at BSkyB made her deserving of the coveted accolade.

Conrad said: “Samira has played an instrumental role in creating a phenomenal 18 per cent reduction in car use in the last 2 years and has been directly responsible for the delivery of three of the UK’s best travel plans. BSkyB, GSK and Nottingham County Council.

“She also worked to implement a cycling culture that resulted in 10 per cent of employees becoming regular cyclists and her work was has already been awarded for developing schemes such as Bike Miles and creating a platinum card culture for cyclists.

“We nominated Samira thanks to her innovative approach and consistent hard work – a true example of best practice.

“The award is a reflection of how the development of Smarter Travel under the right direction can make a real, significant and positive difference.”

Samira added: “It’s wonderful to be recognised at such a prestigious event.  The awards are great for our industry and really show how far we've come.”

The ACT Travelwise National Autumn Conference and Awards Ceremony was this year centred around A Healthy Approach to Travel Options: helping organisations and individuals to thrive, and was held at The Sage and the Assembly Rooms, Newcastle.
