MVA Consultancy has won a two-year Framework Agreement to carry out work evaluating infrastructure investment and other services for British Waterways Scotland.
Transport and economics specialist MVA will lead the contract, along with Natural Capital, pza consulting and Arch Henderson, which will involve the ongoing economic monitoring and evaluation of investment, as well as developing a similar monitoring framework for assessing social and environmental impacts.
A key aspect of the project is to measure the contribution of investing in Scotland’s canal network to British Waterways Scotland's corporate objectives and vision as well as the National Outcomes and Objectives of the Scottish Government.
As part of the Framework, the MVA led multi-discplinary expert team will also provide other services, such as economic analysis, feasibility reviews and appraisals, accessibility and connectivity analysis and impact reviews and evaluations.
Funding strategies and applications will also be examined along with developing business cases, examining the environmental aspects of sustainability and performance analysis.
Paul McCartney, project manager at MVA, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to this framework, which represents an exciting opportunity for us. Canals are an important and undervalued element of our transport network and contribute much more to society than the simple movement of people and goods. We and our partners are very much looking forward to supporting BWS on this Framework and helping them realise the important economic and social contribution that the canal network can make to Scotland and its local communities”
