MVA to develop concept schemes for Ealings’ “Corridors and Neighbourhoods” programmes

MVA Consultancy has been appointed by the London Borough of Ealing to develop concept schemes for several areas within the borough for which the Council has been allocated Local Implementation Plan funding for 2010/11 through Transport for London’s Corridors and Neighbourhoods programmes.
Over the years, different approaches have been taken to improving the operation and appearance of these areas. Whilst many of these initiatives have successfully addressed the specific problems, many areas suffer from the lack of a co-ordinated approach. The challenge of this project is to combine the effects (and successes) of previous work with contemporary thinking to produce a coherent urban environment. TfL’s new approach to integrated design, central to the concept of Corridors and Neighbourhoods, provides an opportunity to realise this vision and to satisfy the objectives of the Ealing Borough Transport Strategy and the Mayor’s second Transport Strategy.
For this study MVA is adopting the principles promoted in ‘Link & Place’, a forward thinking approach which recognises that, whilst some streets are more important than others in terms of traffic flow, some have a greater place function and as such deserve to be treated differently. A prioritised package of proposals will be developed for the Corridors and Neighbourhoods which will demonstrate innovation whilst recognising that the solutions must provide the required functionality, be affordable and implementable within the given timescales.
Glenn Higgs, Project Manager at MVA Consultancy, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for MVA to further strengthen its relationship with Ealing and to apply the knowledge and experience of contemporary design it has built up over the last few years”.
