MVA to test freight emissions impact in London

<< Go Back

MVA Consultancy has been appointed as the lead consultant by the West London Air Quality Cluster Group (WLAQC) to carry out a freight emissions modelling study for the West London sub-region.

The leading transport planning consultancy with subconsultants TRL are working to investigate the impacts of freight actions and how they could help to meet an agreed CO2 emission reduction targets of up to 25%. The study will make use of TRL’s Transport and Enhanced Emissions Model – TEEM) that is specifically tailored for West London to test scenarios. The outcome in each case considered the impact of each scenario in terms of nitrogen oxides (NOX), particulate matter (PM) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

The study team will examine the impacts of a range of freight intervention and behavioural change measures, assessing the uptake of scenarios and setting out short, medium and long-term impacts which could be achieved through implementing these measures.  The study aims to provide West London Boroughs with valuable information on actions that can be practically introduced to influence change in delivery and servicing practice passing through and taking place in West London.

Kevin Ratnasingam who leads MVA’s freight and fleet consultancy work said,”This is the first of many actions in West London which will assist in the decision making process to help reduce emissions generated by freight vehicles.” Jennifer  Barrett of the WLAQC commented “This innovative work on freight vehicle emissions will enable us to gain a better understanding to develop a base framework for further emission reduction actions in West London. This work delivers an outcome that cuts across freight operations and emission reduction actions in West London.”
