Sky, the UK’s leading entertainment and home communications company, has won Workplace of the Year 2010 for their excellence in Travel Planning at the recent Transport for London (Tfl) Smarter Travel Awards.
Tfl presented the award in recognition of the excellence of Sky’s travel plan for its Osterley campus in the London Borough of Hounslow. The plan has increased the usage of sustainable modes of transport, by:
- encouraging walking and cycling to work, through the installation of additional showers, lockers, drying rooms, cycle parking and an on-site cycle centre
- promoting a car sharing scheme; and
- funding a staff shuttle bus service.
The plan has seen commuter journeys by car to the Sky site reduce by 18% over the past two years, reducing traffic congestion and the site’s environmental impact.
The award comes only weeks after Sky won the Pan European Workplace Mobility Plan Awards, run by EPOMM the European Platform on Mobility Management, in Graz, Austria.
Samira Ahmed, Head of Transport Strategy for Sky, who is the present 2010, ACTTravelWise Travel Planner of the Year said: “At Sky, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and to making Sky a great place to work. The travel plan is key to both of those goals. We have made significant strides forward in the last two years and are delighted our achievement has been recognised by Transport for London.”
