MVA creates rural transport web resource

The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and MVA Consultancy have joined forces to deliver a web resource designed to assist in the design and delivery of rural transport services.
The resource draws together information on policy, rural geographies, supporting data and statistics, development of business cases and appraisal and accessing appropriate funding streams.
Aimed at policy makers, local authority officers, partner organisations, academics, and consultants, its overarching theme is the contribution of rural transport to service delivery in other departments, including health, education, economic, and social and leisure. The different streams are drawn together into a selection of good practice case studies. MVA Consultancy’s project manager, Jon Crockett, said “I’ve been working in the rural transport field for a number of years now, and it quickly became apparent that whilst there is a lot of good work out there, it ‘s often difficult to find and draw together into a cohesive case for funding. This is especially true for rural transport as the impacts are often felt away from the more mainstream economic and environmental goals, and instead focus more on the accessibility and social inclusion agenda”.
IDeA’s programme manager for Sustainable Communities, Kamal Panchal, said “We hope that this resource goes a long way towards addressing the need of practitioners, but realise that there is probably a host of further work out there”. Practitioners are being encouraged to email Juno Baker at juno.baker@idea.gov.uk with further inputs for the resource in order to ensure it remains relevant and up-to-date. In addition, a community of Practice for those interested in rural transport delivery has been set up at www.communities.idea.gov.uk/login.do where current issues, challenges and events can be discussed in a forum.
The rural transport resource is available at www.idea.gov.uk/transport
