A comparative study of child pedestrian accidents
and exposure in selected European cities to provide meaningful measures
of child pedestrian activity and roadside characteristics that will
improve understanding of why child pedestrians in Great Britain have
such a high accident involvement rate. This research was undertaken
on behalf of the Road Safety Division of the DETR.
The two year study, conducted in association with Leeds University
Institute for Transport Studies, provides quantitative estimates
of the accident risk associated with each type of road and will form
a useful basis for the development of road safety policy both in
Britain and overseas.
