Crossrail Support

<< Go Back

The Crossrail project cuts through the London Borough of Havering and includes the construction of a new depot at Romford. The Borough although supporting the overall concept of Crossrail has petitioned against the Bill as it stood on a number of issues, the majority of which relate to the construction and operation of a new rolling stock depot on an exisitng rail site at Romford. The Borough is keen to ensure that the depot is constructed and operated to the best practice to minimise the intrusion to community of such an operation. The Borough is also concerned at the size of the access junction required to link the new depot to the main London to Ipswich railway line, which will require the compulsory acquisition of public amenities adjacent to the rail line for the construction of the new junction. In addition to the issues relating to the depot at Romford the Borough has raised issues relating to the redevelopment of rail stations within the borough at Romford, Gidea Park and Harold Wood, and is seeking to ensure that major upgrades to improve the accessibility to the stations for disabled travellers is included in the Crossrail work. We provided rail operation expertise to the Borough in support of its petition.
