DETR Urban Traffic Management and Control

<< Go Back

MVA Consultancy, with partners Birmingham City Council, Leicester City Council, Peek and Viggen examined input and output data requirements for the DETR's Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) initiative. The six month study determined the fundamental requirements of UTMC to establish whether they will fit within new standards.

The £5m UTMC Research Programme was created as a response to local authorities' increasing requirements for cost-effective methods of managing transport in urban areas in order to give priority to public transport, reduce the impact of traffic on air quality, improve safety and manage congestion. We with our partners assembled and reviewed current research into driver and traveller information requirements, and into the way information influences behaviour, drawing on examples from the UK, the US and Japan. The project also drew on our considerable experience with data dictionaries, such as DATEX.
