Glasgow International Prestwick Airport

For Scottish Enterprise we studied the impacts of enhanced rail surface access to Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The study identified the opportunities/barriers for an enhanced service, evaluated the rail enhancement in the wider context of existing/potential rail proposals within and beyond Ayrshire and identified the potential of increased services from Ayrshire on proposals for Crossrail in Central Glasgow. Our team plotted a course of action to influence future capital programmes, including development of an initial 'best case' option illustrating the scale of investment required and the synergies between the currently discrete projects. The project also looked at the capacity of the current Paisley (Glasgow) Ayr rail line and considered the potential for capacity improvement, journey time reduction, dedicated services and direct connections from Ayshire to the east of Scotland.
