Glasgow conurbation public transport study

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (the
Regional Transport Partnership for the West of Scotland) wished to
carry out a scoping study of the existing public transport provision
in the Glasgow conurbation, and the options for future improvements.
This involved reaching a workable definition of the conurbation,
based on accessibility, land use/economic interaction and travel
patterns. We then carried out SWOT analyses of the present and future
public transport in the area and facilitated an unconstrained optioneering
process. Having identified a long-list of possible public transport
interventions we developed an objective sifting mechanism to identify
a short-list for future appraisal. We also identified high-level
costs for these interventions. Finally we drafted a brief to cover
the work necessary to complete the study using the Scottish Transport
Appraisal Guidance (STAG).
