Greater London Bus Passenger Survey (GLBPS)

Back
We have been continuously responsible for GLBPS since
inception in October 1990. The GLBPS is an extensive on-going study
of the travel patterns on London’s buses which aims to accurately
record the amount of concessionary travel on the London bus network
and establish a fair basis for the allocation of off-bus revenue
(Travelcard etc) between the many different bus operators. The survey
findings form the core basis for off-bus revenue apportionment, both
amongst operators and the London Boroughs. The key objectives of
the survey are to measure: passenger mileage travelled by ticket
type (grouped as required) for a single route or set of routes undertaken
by a single operator; and, at a network level, by ticket type the
volume of journeys, average length of those journeys and equivalent
cash fare payable for those journeys. As the variables measured are
inter-correlated the analysis involves complex bias correction procedures.
