The study investigated the existing/future demands for cross Solent travel capacity both ferry and shore-side and the ability of the Isle of Wight highway network to cope with peak demands for travel particularly during the peak tourist season. The study investigated the capacity and existing operation of the floating bridge at Cowes and ferry terminals at Yarmouth, Cowes, Fishbourne and Ryde. The study also included capacity and impacts of public transport interchange facilities, cross Solent freight movements, trailer storage capacity at the docks and review of the feasibility of a bulk freight distribution site on the Isle of Wight.
