Lambeth home zone

<< Go Back

Our involvement with Home Zones dates back to the national pilot study. On behalf of Lambeth Council and various neighbourhood associations within the Borough we prepared a bid to the DETR for support for a number of home zone proposals. Under highly competitive conditions our bid was successful in attracting funding and pilot home zone status for the proposed Holmewood Home Zone located between Brixton and Streatham Hill.

The design of the Home Zone has evolved over recent months through a process of community participation involving residents’ meetings, completion of questionnaires and in involvement in events such as workshops and a Planit weekend. This has culminated in the preparation of a green print for the area. Throughout the process we have helped steer the direction of the design towards practical, and effective solutions that address the problems identified. At the onset of the project we organised appropriate traffic, parking, pedestrian and cyclist surveys to inform the design process and provide a benchmark against which to monitor the effects of the proposals. We also designed the questionnaire and analysed accident and crime statistics. Our experts have been on hand at all stages to provide technical input to discussions with residents and to liaise with statutory authorities such as the emergency services and Transport for London.

We are able to offer a complete service including Planning for Real community participation, workshops, questionnaires and focus groups through to the detailed design of solutions.
