We have designed and developed an extensive travel surveys Oracle database for Transport for London’s LATS data. The system intelligently matches and cleans survey addresses. It is used in a coding office of some 20 staff to process 3 million Transport for London Area Travel Survey (LATS) survey data records. The system is one of the largest of its kind, containing digital mapping, address-point and Royal Mail data for the UK. Address coding software has been written, with QuickAddress address matching and geocoding technology, ESRI’s MapObjects GIS components, and an extensive UK place names gazetteer. Our technology also intelligently assigns imprecise addresses to postcodes and the resulting data form an important element in the transport strategy for the South-East of England.
