We produced a transport assessment and environmental
impact assessment for two of the three Park and Ride sites to be
proposed as part of the Leicester West Major Transport Scheme. The
Environmental Assessment was undertaken by Enviros as subcontractors
to us. The documents were submitted as supporting documents in the
Local Transport Plan Annex E submission for the scheme. Our technical
work included assessment of the sites, including internal circulation
of both vehicles and pedestrians, and the access arrangements for
both cars and buses. The work also included using forecast patronage
figures and existing traffic counts to ascertain the scale of the
impact on the surrounding road network, in particular at new access
junctions and a number of key junctions around the proposed sites
where detailed junction analyses were carried out using LINSIG, TRANSYT
and ARCADY.
In addition to our work on the Leicester West Transport
(LWT) major public transport scheme, we were again commissioned by
Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council to conduct
a study to investigate optimal sites for park and ride car parks.
We were responsible for project management and transport planning,
and was supported by GVA Grimley on land use planning, ERM on environmental
impact and Stuart Michael Associates on site engineering. The study
recommended sites to serve three route corridors into the City Centre.
The sites formed part of the LWT scheme which is proposing a total
of five sites, extensive bus priority, variable message signing and
bus stop improvements, including real time passenger information.
It was intended that the recommended sites be taken forward to public
consultation.
