CEC Use of LUTI Model

<< Go Back

We have a long-term contract with transport initiatives edinburgh (tie) and City of Edinburgh Council to maintain and run the LUTI (Land Use Transport Interaction) model of Edinburgh, the Lothians and south Fife. The state-of-the-art LUTI model comprises (i) a TRAM transport model, (ii) a DELTA land use model, and (iii) detailed TRIPS based assignment models for highway and public transport. It enables forecasts of the effects of transport proposals to be made systematically within the context of local planning policy. The model has been used in numerous high-profile commissions such as Congestion Charging in Edinburgh (up to and successfully through PLI stage), the three proposed Edinburgh tram lines, and the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (both currently before the Scottish Parliament). For these latter two projects, the model has been used to provide outputs for tie's advisors on each of these commissions, where further detailed modelling and appraisal work is undertaken.
