We were commissioned to undertake Traffic and revenue
forecasting for proposed N6 toll road between Galway and Ballinasloe.
The project consisted of approximately 56 kilometres
of new dual carriageway road between Galway and Ballinasloe in the
west of Ireland. In addition
there is a 7 kilometre link road to the Loughrea Bypass, 32 Kilometres
of side roads and 4 grade separated junctions. There is a single
toll plaza with differential toll levels for cars and three classes
of goods vehicle. We provided traffic forecasts for toll plaza
design, pavement design and for revenue forecasts. A SATURN highway
traffic
model was developed based on existing roadside interview and other
data. Traffic growth was assessed based on car ownership growth,
gross national product (GNP) growth, regional population and employment
growth. Traffic forecasts took into account willingness to pay
tolls using distributions of value of time by vehicle toll class.
