New Mersey Crossing

On behalf of Halton Borough Council and
other members of the Mersey Crossing Group, we designed and facilitated
the public consultation
process for the new Mersey Crossing. Focus groups with residents
and workshops with businesses and local interest groups identified
the expected impact of the alternative routes and allowed stakeholders
to raise concerns and help select a preferred option to be taken
forward for government funding.
Increasing congestion on the current Silver Jubilee
Bridge at Runcorn is constraining economic regeneration both locally
and across the sub-region. A new crossing would relieve the existing
crossing, maximise development opportunities in Halton, improve public
transport across the river and encourage cycling and walking. As
part of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) MVA consulted with
relevant stakeholders such as local residents, businesses, travellers,
regional partners, local authorities and transport providers. This
informed assessments of the social, transport and economic impacts
of the different route options. Once a preferred option for the crossing
was selected, further consultation enabled stakeholders to participate
in the design process.
