We were appointed by North West Regional Assembly to
undertake research to inform them on opportunities for developing
strategic regional park-and-ride facilities within the region. The
results fed into policy development of the regional transport strategy
and assisted future reviews of Regional Planning Guidance, Local
Transport Plans and other strategies. Stage 1 involved consultation
with transport infrastructure providers, operators and planners in
both the public and private sector. This enabled the study team to
establish clear views of various stakeholders on the development
of strategic park and ride sites. This process also gathered complete
information regarding the locations where park and ride might be
feasible and compile data required to make assessments of each site.
At Stage 2 the team undertook a desk-based assessment of each location.
Evidence of potential use of possible park and ride schemes was used
to estimate the nature of transfer from other modes to park and ride.
The location assessment also covered highway and design, land-use
and operational issues.
