Nottingham Express Transit Phase Two

Nottingham Express Transit Line One was intended to be the first of network of routes that would assist in sustaining and enhancing economic vitality of Nottingham and its wider City Region.

Major scheme development is challenging; the scheme promoter, Nottingham City Council, required specialist advice to identify scheme benefits to drive network expansion through the planning and funding approvals process towards delivery.

After submission of intermediate approvals cases, NET was granted its planning approvals in 2009 with detailed delivery work, a tendering exercise and submission of the Full Business Case following in 2011. Construction works commenced in 2012 with opening expected in late 2014.

Our roles throughout the development and delivery of Line One and recently Phase Two have been varied, including preparing funding applications, driving revenue line development and the economic case for investment. We also prepared the Statement of Case and provided an Expert Witnesses for the Phase Two Transport and Works Act public inquiry. Following planning approvals we have supported the tender evaluation and have developed a Benefits Realisation Strategy to support delivery.

We have been active on NET from the mid-1990s being retained to the present day on Phase Two.

“Our long term embedded support to NET clearly demonstrates that the complexities of scheme delivery require highly skilled, motivated and integrated teams. The relationships are enjoyable and highly productive: the sum of the parts far exceeds the individual components. And in our role throughout scheme development from early planning to delivery we have been privileged to complement the tight client team and other legal, financial and engineering specialists.”
