Scottish Executive

Advisor to the Scottish Executive for both the Concessionary Fare and the Transport Application projects for the roll out of National Free Travel from 1 April 2006. The main objective of the Transport Application is to deliver a national interoperable smart card ticketing platform in Scotland. In order for this to be achieved, there is a requirement to replace or upgrade the majority of existing ticket machines owned by bus operators. This equates to approximately 6,500 units across the bus industry. MVA has acted as secretariat for the procurement process and delivery is helping to ensure that the ticketing and back office equipment meets the requirements of the ITSO specification.

Within the project as a whole, smart card functionality is being delivered and supported with full compliance to the ITSO specification and the associated certification and licence agreements that it requires. There is also a commitment by Scottish Executive to the ongoing maintenance of the ITSO environment.
