Staff Development Review in teachers' continued professional development

The research identified and documented best practice in relation to Staff Development Review (SDR) and CPD recording mechanisms. We assessed what constituted current SDR practice in local authorities, the criteria that are used to determine whether existing SDR systems are valid and how the SDR process measures up against stakeholder perceptions of the process. The work included depth interviews with local authority representatives and teaching organisations as well as focus groups with teaching staff and parents to outline perceptions of the current guidelines, investigate views and develop recommendations on the CPD profile and examine mechanisms by which CPD activity can be monitored.
