We have extensive experience in all stages of
the development of traffic management schemes from identification
of problems and the development of alternative solutions through
public consultation, to detailed design and implementation of measures.
What we can offer
Our staff are readily able to assimilate traffic
related issues, be they concerned with road safety, traffic congestion,
junction
operation, signing, bus priority or facilities for pedestrians
and cyclists. We are then able to develop innovative solutions
that deliver
value for money and are sensitively designed to local preferences.
In assessing traffic management schemes we are
able to make use of the latest developments in traffic engineering
software
including micro-simulation techniques and accessibility analysis.
Our staff
also have well developed skills in industry standard software
such
as LINSIG, ARCADY, PICADY and TRANSYT. In addition we offer
complimentary skills in the design of fixed and variable message
traffic signs
using the AutoCad based AutoSign package.
We have experience in designing major traffic
management proposals for urban areas often involving complex signalling
arrangements, highway realignment and new signing. Incorporation
of facilities
for vulnerable road users is a key aspect of our work and
typically
involves the inclusion of pelican, toucan or puffin crossings,
cycle
lanes and pedestrian refuges.
At the more local level we have developed a
variety of traffic calming schemes comprising horizontal and vertical
deflections, mini roundabouts, chicanes and the like.
Some
of these schemes
have also
included elements of bus priority. We are fully familiar
with
Regulations
covering traffic calming schemes and the issues that
are likely to arise in connection with bus routes and emergency
access.
As part of scheme development we are able to
advise on the drafting of Traffic Regulation Orders including
those covering
vehicular movements and waiting and loading restrictions.
We are
able to liaise
with the emergency services, bus operators and other
transport stakeholders as part of the consultation
process. Our staff
also have experience
of consulting with the general public through exhibitions
and group discussions.
When a preferred option is identified we offer
a detailed design capability and have prepared
a number of schemes that
are sensitively
designed to complement the local environment. If
required we can also prepare contract documents and administer
the tender
process
on behalf of our clients. For a number of schemes
our staffs have taken on the role of Planning Supervisor
and independent
Safety
Auditor.
Our traffic management experience covers
all modes of transport - rail, light rail, bus,
general
vehicular
traffic, cycle and
foot. It includes environmental management, road
safety, traffic
calming,
pedestrian and cyclist crossings and on-street
waiting and loading. Examples of some recent
projects now follow.
In
addition to these
projects we are currently advising Dublin Bus on ticketing.
